The verified national benchmark

The most reliable national CPA wage source there is — pulled straight from the BLS, served with full provenance so you can cite it with confidence.

National CPA pay benchmark

BLS OEWS · SOC 13-2011 · May 2025

Verified benchmark · May 2025

This is the federal wage measurement for accountants & auditors — the broad occupation CPAs belong to — captured directly from the BLS Occupational Employment & Wage Statistics program. It is the trusted anchor under every estimate on this site: a clean, machine-readable file with the full 10th-to-90th percentile range, median, mean, and total employment.

Every row carries its source, source URL, SOC code, and vintage, so it stands up to scrutiny in a model, a brief, or a citation. This is verified data only — not a modeled estimate.

Cost-of-living-adjusted (real) pay dataset

CPA and accountant pay restated in buying-power terms — verified BLS wages divided by the BEA Regional Price Parity for each state and metro. Shows where a salary stretches furthest.

Real pay by state & metro

BLS OEWS May 2025 × BEA Regional Price Parities · nominal, RPP, adjusted, rank shift

Each row pairs the verified nominal median with the area’s BEA price parity and the resulting buying-power-adjusted figure, plus how the area moves between the nominal and real rankings. This is a buying-power comparison, not take-home pay — it excludes taxes, housing choices, and benefits. See the full analysis →
